Romo Tells It Like It Is

Brian Leatherman

For the past five or six seasons people have wanted to replace Tony Romo. It just always seemed the easiest thing to do; blame the QB for the team’s troubles. Well, for a brief moment, those same people thought his replacement could be in the 2014 draft.

As the rumors soared at an all-time high during draft week, the so-called “experts” said Jerry Jones wouldn’t be able to help himself and would draft Johnny Manziel. Some fans and media were just as giddy as a 12-year-old school girl.

Well, things didn’t work out like that.

The Cowboys pick finally came up and Johnny Football was passed on and eventually taken by the Cleveland Browns. Oh how the Romo haters and media moaned when Commissioner Goodell said the name Zack Martin.

Romo supporters wondered and Romo Haters hoped, but there was one man who wasn’t worried for one second who was coming to Valley Ranch…

That one man was Tony Romo.

In an interview with Stephen Jones on Sirius XM radio, Jones said the team met with Romo just to let him know that he was still their guy. And Romo’s response was just what you would want from your starting quarterback. Romo said, ‘Well if you decide to, it ain’t going to matter, there’s not anybody out there that can beat me out.”

I want my QB saying these types of things. I want the attitude and gunslinger mentality, and I want my QB telling the world to Bring. It. On.

And for all the people that hate Tony Romo (And yes, I know people who actually hate the man) you’re going to have to accept that Mr. Romo isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

And those same people are gonna have to accept that there isn’t anybody out there that can come in and do a better job; it just isn’t going to happen.

Some people say getting another QB is going to mean the answer for all of the Dallas Cowboys problems. Well I am here to tell you, there aren’t any guarantees.

So take heed what ye hear Cowboy fans; There will come a day when you will miss Tony Romo. You will miss what he brings to the Dallas Cowboys. Some of you might be asking exactly what does Romo bring to this team? And the answer is…… Tony Romo gives this team a chance to win EVERY single Sunday.

  1. I love Romo. I love everything about him. But for me it’s not about drafting a QB that can come in and beat him out this year. It’s about planning for the future and finding that QB that can take over in year 2 or 3 when Romo either steps down or is cut down by his back. I’ve said it a million times. When it comes to the draft its about the future. And the Cowboys have completely ignored the QB position. Now having said that. I would love nothing more than for Romo to hoist the Lombardi with one hand while flipping the entire world off with the other hand.

  2. Tar Heel Paul  I couldn’t agree more.

Romo is our QB and only our QB – he brings great things to this team and even manages to make everyone else look good when they screw up with his ability to get out of the pocket. To not begin planning for the end of his career in Dallas is idiocy.

I read something where Garrett was talking about Vaughan and Wheeden as the guys vying for the chance to be groomed behind Romo for when that day comes. I just wish there weren’t guys like Tom Brady and Tony Romo where late round picks – at best – that turned out well so we would draft a QB to develop in the earlier rounds 1 or 2.

  3. The article itself isn’t about finding his replacement, Yes eventually that day will come where it has to happen, But right now isn’t the time. That’s why I was okay with them passing on all the QB’s that got drafted in 4th and 5th round. Odds are against those dudes of ever making it, and maybe, Maybe two out of that entire QB draft class will have a good career. I think when the time comes it will be covered a little better this time. You have to remember, when we were losing Troy we didn’t have any 1st round picks for two years. So I think the team has some things planned that we just don’t know about and probably Romo doesn’t  know about yet

  4. @The havmer  I certainly hope so because we did use an early round pick for Quincy Carter and look how he turned out. We struggled at the QB from Troy to Tony. That’s a 6 or 7 years gap that would waste this newly built offensive line even three years from now.

  5. Tar Heel Paul  I agree totally. Nothing would please me more than for Romo to win a superbowl and shut all these non-believers up. Cool nickname by the way. I myself am a Tar Heel fan (basketball mostly) and a Cowboys fan.
