This Sunday evening two things will be true:
- The Dallas Cowboys will be 1-1.
- Alfred Morris will have officially played against all 32 teams in the NFL.
“The Butler”, as I’ve affectionately nicknamed him, has never played against the Washington Redskins. That makes a lot of sense obviously because, before the Cowboys brilliantly stole him, Alfred suited up the DC Football Club.
So while it may be unfamiliar territory for Morris to be running into those disgusting burgundy uniforms instead of behind them, this division is one that he knows very well. As of last Sunday, Alfred Morris has played 17 games against the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles. He’s done well:
- 287 carries.
- 1,152 yards.
- 4.01 yards per carry.
- 5 touchdowns.
- 11 50+ Yard Games.
- 8 75+ Yard Games.
What does this information have to do with the NFC East? Not a whole lot honestly. It’s as important as you knowing that I think yellow is a dumb color – which is true – but I also believe that Alfred Morris is a fine running back.
One of the more underrated NFL-wide moves a season ago was Bill Callahan leaving the Cowboys for the Redskins. He vastly improved the offensive line that helped protect Kirk Cousins on the road to a Division Championship. This year, the Cowboys evened the score by bringing in The Butler, and singlehandedly destroyed the Redskins rushing attack in the process. Greedy Jerry!
A lot of members of Cowboys Nation have been chirping for Alfred to see a bulk of the work until Zeke Elliott is “ready.” I don’t subscribe to that idea, but I do think that The Butler should be seriously involved in the gameplan on Sunday.
Dallas dominated the time of possession against the Giants (36:43 compared to 23:17), and they were within a few legitimate Terrance Williams brain cells of escaping Week 1 with a victory. That’s the recipe for success, in addition to some more successful redzone trips, that will net the Cowboys some solid dubayoos this season.
You saw the math behind The Butler’s New York/Philadelphia domination. You know how he’s plagued us in the past. Now you get to sit back and watch him do the same to a team that’s the Home of the Hogs with an animalistic style that will get you hyped.
