We are only three weeks away from the conclusion of the 2013 NFL regular season. With each passing week I attempt to put together a mock draft based on how I feel at the time. After watching the Cowboys on Monday Night Football get shredded, it would be no shock that I would conjur up a mock draft taking nothing but defensive players.
First Round:
Kony Ealy, Defensive End, Missouri
Ealy is a long defender who can spell DeMarcus Ware or fill in when Ware gets injured. This is an ideal selection because DeMarcus is “Ware”ing down and there is no telling how much longer he can last. I am also not very confident that Ware even survives the offseason as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Ealy can step right in and perform immediately while also giving this defensive line some youth that they are desperately lacking.
Second Round:
Aaron Donald, Defensive Tackle, Pittsburgh
Donald took home a lot of hardware from the college football awards winning the Outland and Bednarik awards. Donald is an ideal fit for this team as he can fill the role of an active 3 technique and disrupt the backfield. Jason Hatcher will be 33 next season and the team should be very hesitant on locking him up long term.
Third Round:
Dee Ford, Outside Linebacker, Auburn
Ford used in a few different ways at Auburn but I believe he can step in as the weakside linebacker. He also has the ability to put his hand in the dirt on obvious passing downs to generate quarterback pressure. The Cowboys had injury issues all across the defensive line and Ford can help with depth at two positions.
Fourth Round:
Marqueston Huff, Safety, Wyoming
Huff is a little know prospect at the safety position mainly due to his exposure. Huff could easily slide into the role of the cover safety and assist the corners in coverage. His interception numbers were limited with having to assist with the running game. With Huff you can slide Wilcox over to strong safety where I believe he is a more natural fit. Barry Church is a liability in the defensive backfield.
