When the Green Bay Packers (3-1) and Dallas Cowboys (4-1) square off, it seemingly automatically becomes a “must watch” game for all NFL fans. These two iconic franchises, which have combined for nine Super Bowl wins, will go at it once more when they face one another at Lambeau Field this weekend.
Over the years, these two teams have engaged in some highly entertaining match-ups, including the controversial 2014 NFC Divisional Round playoff game that Green Bay narrowly won, 26-21, thanks to some controversy. This was the infamous “Dez Bryant catch” game, in which a brilliant catch made by the mercurial star receiver was overturned at a crucial point in the contest, ultimately resulting in Dallas’ ouster from the postseason that year.
Overall, the rivalry between these two squads dates back to 1960, when both teams were members of the AFL.
Fast forward to the present day rivalry–and fans will see dominance by Green Bay at Lambeau Field.
Green Bay has won four straight games at Lambeau Field over Dallas, including a 38-7 drubbing at Lambeau last season. That meeting, however, was with Matt Cassel at quarterback, as he was filling in for Tony Romo, and while Romo is once again sidelined this year, the Cowboys have received much improved play at the quarterback position with rookie Dak Prescott under center. Prescott has the Cowboys positioned as one of the league’s biggest surprises thus far, having won four of their first five games.

However, Green Bay’s defense pitted against Dallas’ rookie sensation Ezekiel Elliott might be the most interesting matchup of this anticipated affair. Elliott has been terrific in the early going, leaping out as one of the early front-runners for Offensive Rookie of the Year, but the Pack boasts a stingy defense against the rush, and that could be the deciding factor in the ballgame.
If the Packers are able to contain the Cowboys’ rush attack, while getting the usual effort from star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, they’ll be in prime position to win this game. Either way, it could be one of the most exciting match-ups of the young season, and based on how both clubs have looked, it just might be an early playoff preview in the NFC as well.
