One of the best players in Dallas Cowboys history was injured during last week’s game versus the 49ers. Dan Bailey was ruled out with a groin injury, handing the kicking duties to Jeff Heath for the rest of the game.
However, Bailey will miss several weeks and after working out a few kickers, the Cowboys have signed veteran free agent Mike Nugent.
Cowboys signed former Bengals/Bucs/Jets/Giants kicker Mike Nugent to replace the injured Dan Bailey, per sources.

Nugent knows his way around the league. Being around the NFL for more than ten years, the addition makes sense for Dallas. Personally, I’m surprised the Cowboys didn’t go for Sam Irwin-Hill who had a nice preseason.
Mike Nugent made 23 out of 29 field goals last year with the Cincinnati Bengals. In the PAT department, he missed six extra points.
To make a roster spot for Nugent, surprisingly, the Cowboys released DE Damontre Moore. After returning from his two game suspension, he hasn’t done much but it still is surprising to see him getting released, and not the other Moore. After Cooper Rush’s promotion to QB2, that’s the direction many fans thought this was headed.
The Cowboys will surely miss Dan “Automatic” Bailey. Here at Inside The Star, we wish Dan a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon. We will need him.
To complete the experience, Garrett could have at least let Heath kick onside once… ;^)
Damontre Moore has been on 5 teams, so this is the way his career is going. He showed a lot of motor in preseason however, and it seems like a quick hook. Moore will be back in the league in a few weeks when somebody’s DE goes down.
Nugent in theory gives you a better chance than Irwin-Hill when you have to hit the game winner, since he’s done it in the NFL. Let’s hope we don’t have to test that theory.
Haha, a Heath onside kick would’ve been awesome. I agree on Moore, he wasn’t great or anything but he wasn’t bad.
Hope we don’t have to see that scenario.
