Barry Church: Jaguars Have More Talent, Tougher Practices Than Cowboys

Kevin Brady

Former Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars this spring, finding a new home in Florida. Church started for the Cowboys at safety over the last few years, even being voted captain of the defense.

So, clearly, Church was a leader in the locker room and had the pulse of the team. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Yesterday, in a post-practice press conference, Church stated that his new team has “a lot more talent” than the Cowboys did last season, despite their 13-3 record.

On defense, he seems to be right.

Sure, the Cowboys made some nice moves to bolster the back end of their defense through the NFL Draft, but they certainly don’t have a Jalen Ramsey in that secondary. It’s also clear they don’t have a Malik Jackson or an eight-sack Yannick Ngakoue in their front seven.

Still, it was interesting to see Church make these thoughts public, and show how he truly feels about the Cowboys defensive talent.

Church later went on to discuss the different practice philosophies they have in Jacksonville, stating that they have more practice periods, and an overall more demanding experience during camp.

  1. Guess this means they should fire the Jacksonville coaches again if they have more talent and a much worse record.

  2. The things players say when they leave He goes from a good offense/bad defense to a bad offense /good defense. Good luck going 8-8 in the worst division in football. Enjoy your money losing while we chase this ring

  3. It never seems to pan out for them. The Jags need to tank some drafts & start taking days off… ;^)
