CBs Brandon Carr and Morris ClaiborneRe-sign Brandon Carr or Morris Claiborne

Nearly everybody has been under the belief that upgrading the defensive end position is the Dallas Cowboys top priority this off-season, but I think upgrading the cornerback position is of greater importance. The Cowboys technically have the bodies to play DE, but that’s simply not the case at CB.

Orlando Scandrick and Anthony Brown are the Cowboys top two corners as of right now, and both players are probably best suited to play in the slot in the NFL. The Cowboys absolutely need to find a bigger outside CB this off-season and re-signing Brandon Carr or Morris Claiborne would help them enter the draft without having a glaring need at the CB position.

It may be a little bit surprising, but Claiborne may be the more difficult of the two to keep because of the way he played the first half of the season in 2016. I’m willing to bet that some team will be willing to take a chance he can regain that form, despite his history of injuries. That will likely mean that Claiborne will end up being out of the Cowboys price range.

Brandon Carr may not be as talented as Claiborne, but he is dependable. He has never missed a game in his entire NFL career and would be a great mentor to whichever CB the Cowboys drafted.

Of course, the Cowboys could decide to roll the dice and take a chance on Justin Gilbert or D.J. Hayden. Both players are talented outside CBs, but neither has been able to live up to their first-round draft status so far.

  1. It’s gonna be kinda hard to trade Romo , what team in their right mind would trade anything for a old fragile qb. Release him and get it over with already !!! It’s not like he’s going to any threats in the NFC We can use that money for Defense. Speaking of Defense that should be the ONLY focus of the off-season , resign back who you can and Draft heavy on the defensive side of the ball BUT if a playmaker TE or WR is available high in the draft you take him but other than that the off season should be simple but effective Don’t waste a good team because you won’t put together the necessary pieces on defense I feel like its the same story going into EVERY off-season DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS Not tryna out score everybody and playing keep away
