Chaz Green Out For Season, Undergoing Back Surgery

Sean Martin

You hear a lot in the NFL that a player’s best trait is availability. Chaz Green does not have this trait. A third round pick in 2015, Green was supposed to provide depth at the tackle position, but instead missed his rookie season.

Green is now out for the rest of 2016, after starting three games earlier in the season for star LT Tyron Smith. He will have back surgery, just days after returning to practice and slowly working his way back.

This leaves Emmett Cleary as the only true backup tackle on the roster. Fortunately, Smith has been his usual self these past few weeks with no setbacks, and Doug Free has held up down the line from him at right tackle.

This blow to the league’s best offensive line opens the door for reinforcements on the defensive line, as Zach Moore will now likely get his shot to earn snaps at defensive end.

The Space Cowboys will be just fine, but Chaz Green’s long-term status with the Cowboys has to be in question now.
