The final injury reports for the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals are in as they prepare for their Week 3 match-up on Monday Night Football. The teams held their final practices on Saturday this week, which is normal for a Monday game.
Here are the lists provided to the NFL by each club and what these could mean for Monday night.
Dallas Cowboys
- CB Chidobe Awuzie – OUT (hamstring)
- CB Nolan Carroll – OUT (concussion)
- LB Anthony Hitchens – OUT (knee)
- WR Brice Butler – Questionable (ankle)
- DT Stephen Paea – Questionable (knee)
The big news here is that cornerbacks Carroll and Awuzie will remain out with the injuries that took them out of last week’s game in Denver. On the plus side, Orlando Scandrick is returning from his injury. Dallas will likely activate Bene Benwikere as the fourth cornerback behind Scandrick, Anthony Brown, and Jourdan Lewis on Monday night.
Paea did not practice all week and appears to be a game-time decision. That would leave the Cowboys with just Maliek Collins, Tyrone Crawford, and Brian Price as defensive tackles for the game. DeMarcus Lawrence is capable of playing some inside and may have to given the numbers. Thankfully, Damontre Moore is coming off suspension to help with the defensive line rotation.
While listed on the report, Brice Butler was a limited participant in Friday and Saturday’s practices and is likely to play Monday night. If not, Dallas still has Ryan Switzer and Noah Brown to work with.
Arizona Cardinals
- OT D.J. Humphries – OUT (knee)
- WR John Brown – OUT (quad)
- WR J.J. Nelson – Questionable (hamstring)
- OG Mike Iupati – Questionable (tricep)
- TE Jermaine Gresham – Questionable (ribs)
- LB Deone Buchanan – Questionable (ankle)
The Cardinals are facing some injury concerns at several starting positions. Humphries, their left tackle, is already ruled out. The backup is John Wetzel, who was with the Cowboys as a developmental player from 2014-2015. Also on the offensive line, left guard Mike Iupati was limited in practice all week but is a veteran and will likely play.
J.J. Nelson, coming off an NFC Offensive Player of the Week award, should play but may not have his same elusiveness. The receiver depth will also be lacking with John Brown already ruled out due to an upper leg issue. Starting TE Jermaine Gresham was also limited this week with a rib injury.
Starting linebacker-safety hybrid Deone Buchanan has an ankle injury but should play. His fellow starter at middle linebacker, veteran Karlos Dansby, was a full participant in Saturday’s practice but was limited but has been dealing with a hip issue earlier in the week. They are a big part of what makes the Cardinals defense effective, so any weakness will be welcome.
