[tps_title]2017 NFL Combine: 8 WR participants to watch for the Dallas Cowboys[/tps_title]
[4/8] Isaiah Ford, West Virginia (6’2″, 195)
Why he’s on this list: Former Virginia Tech wide receiver, Isaiah Ford, could be exactly the type of player the Dallas Cowboys are looking for to replace Terrance Williams and Brice Butler. He is one of the better all-around WRs in this draft class, and any other year he might be a first-round draft pick. That may still happen with a good performance at the NFL combine, but right now I have him as a Day Two selection with a second round grade.
Ford is a good route runner, which helps him create separation from defenders. He is a natural hands catcher and has enough speed to challenge defenses deep. Once he has the ball in his hands, he has the ability to create yards after the catch, which makes him dangerous in the open field.
What to watch for at the NFL combine: You may be sensing a theme by now, but I’m really interested in finding out his official measurements. The Dallas Cowboys have their preferred parameters they like in their wide receivers, so it will be important to find out if Ford fits the criteria.
The 40 yard dash is also an important event for WRs because teams want to know what a players long speed is. But, I also will be paying close attention to the 20 yard shuffle to see if there is any tightness in his hips when he is breaking down and changing directions.
With a good performance at the NFL combine, Isaiah Ford could fall into no man’s land for the Dallas Cowboys. It may be a little too rich to take him at 28 and he might not be available at 60.
