Offensive Overview

It is no surprise to see the Cowboys doing their due diligence at the quarterback position. Even if they are not targeting one with their first pick, the team visiting with 6 QBs certainly sets up an effective smokescreen come draft day. Cook and Hackenberg are both QBs that Dallas could see fall to them in the second or third round. Brissett would be a later round project.

Perhaps the most interesting QB to visit the facilities is Carson Wentz, who is already very familiar with the organization and coaching staff thanks to the Cowboys coaching the Senior Bowl team that Wentz played on.

It is certainly expected that the team will bring in a QB through the draft at some point, and the same can be said about the running back and wide receiver positions.

Henry, Perkins, and Prosise would all be great additions in the second or third round if Dallas passes on Elliott in the first. Kenyan Drake is a later round pick that adds versatility and speed to the offense.

For the WRs, Fuller and Boyd are two potential targets at pick #34.

Defensive Overview

The Cowboys brought in at least 7 solid first round picks out of the 11 defensive players they visited with. Should they look to upgrade the pass rush or secondary with their fourth overall pick, names like Buckner, Bosa, and Ramsey will all be in play.

Recently, the idea of the Cowboys gaining extra picks via a trade back from that #4 spot has become a popular one among fans. Should they still remain in the top 10 or 15 picks in the draft, the Cowboys can set themselves up to grab Lawson, Dodd, Rankings, or Hargreaves at a great value.

Should Dallas stay home at 4 and not draft Ramsey, Karl Joseph out of West Virginia should rise to the top of the team’s wish list to be in play for the second round.

What’s Next for the Cowboys?

As you saw in the table above, the team still has a few spots to work with when it comes to bringing in players for pre-draft visits. It has been rumored that, following Myles Jack’s medical checks this coming week, he will be rushed in for a last minute visit if healthy.

That would put the Cowboys at 28 visits, with the draft getting underway on April 28th.

  1. Good report Sean. Based on history of picking an ample number of guys from team visits I lie what could unfold. I've seen some good things on Deon King and want to look at some game film. He could be a nice sleeper at LB. We also have 3 more spots for visits so curious who they will use those for.

  2. Thank you for reading! Also keep in mind that Claiborne and Ware did not visit and were drafted. I'm sure we all understand already to brace for anything when Jerry is on the clock though.

Let me know what you think of King (Sean.martin@insidethestar.com). Thanks again for reading
