Cowboys Hold Workout For OL Jonathan Cooper

Could the best unit in all of football be getting even deeper?

According to ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys held a workout for former 2013 first round offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper, and are considering adding him to the active roster. Cooper was last seen in Cleveland with the Browns.

Cooper is a former first round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, and at only 26 years old, many teams may be willing to take a chance on him. After drafting him in 2013, Arizona then traded him this past offseason to New England as apart of the Chandler Jones deal. The Patriots then declined to pick up Cooper’s fifth-year option, and later cut him loose altogether. Cooper was soon picked up by the Cleveland Browns, before being waived on December 27th. Cooper appeared in 6 games in 2016 for the Browns and Patriots.

While it has been a difficult start to Cooper’s career, the Cowboys may feel that if they could get their hands on him, he could finally reach that first round potential.

This workout could also speak volumes about the health of both Ronald Leary and La’el Collins. While both are expected to be ready for the playoffs, the fact that there has been no official word on Collins so far could be concerning. Cooper may be added to ensure some extra depth on the interior offensive line. Regardless, if Collins is available, he will be active.

If signed, Jonathan Cooper would be the fourth first round offensive linemen on the Cowboys roster.
