Here’s a quick Friday update on some new health issues that have come up for two Cowboys players.
The biggest news involves linebacker Andrew Gachkar, who was in the mix to compete for a starting role this year.
#Cowboys LB Andrew Dachkar headed back to Dallas to have thumb surgery, coach Jason Garrett told reporters. Out a few weeks — max.

“A few weeks” would get Gachkar back, hopefully, for at least the Cowboys’ last two preseason games. At worst, he should be ready for the regular season. Even if he’s not a starter, Gachkar is a key special teams player.
Also, one of the wide receivers has a new problem:
WR Devin Street will not practice today (back). Bad timing as he fights for job. @1053thefan #CowboysCamp

Many of us don’t feel Street was going to make the team anyway, so this doesn’t create much of a ripple. Still, it gives young players like Ed Eagan and Andy Jones more opportunities to shine.
In case you’re wondering, Ezekiel Elliott remains out with a hamstring issue and should be back sometime next week.
