Cowboys Injury Updates: Tony Romo Won’t Need Surgery, Hanna May Return

Shane Denney

The Dallas Cowboys have probably suffered their worst-case scenario possible Sunday when starting quarterback, Tony Romo, suffered a broken left clavicle in the third quarter of the game.

Today in Jason Garrett’s press conference on Dallas Cowboys.com, coach Garrett said that no definitive timetable could be established, but they were anticipating Romo to return around the eight-week mark of the season. Romo also took to Twitter and said no surgery would be needed.

Garrett also said that the team may consider putting Romo on IR to return but would not give a specific date or time frame.

*Romo has now been placed on short-term injured reserve and will miss eight weeks.

The Cowboys have a bye on October 18th, meaning, Romo would only miss 7 games. If that timeframe holds true, he could return November 22 when the Cowboys travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins.

Brandon Weeden will assume the role as the Cowboys starting quarterback. The Cowboys currently have quarterbacks Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers on the practice squad, but Garrett wouldn’t rule out signing a free agent to compete for the backup role.

James Hanna had his knee scoped this last Saturday, and could return to practice by the end of the week.

*Terrell McClain has been placed on season-ending injured reserve with a toe injury.

Neither Randy Gregory or Ron Leary were mentioned, so their status is yet unknown.
