Cowboys, Packers Inactives for Week 5

Jess Haynie

Without kickoff about an hour away, here’s who won’t be dressing for today’s Week 5 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers.

Dallas Cowboys

  • QB Cooper Rush
  • RB Darren McFadden
  • WR Noah Brown
  • DT Stephen Paea
  • LB Sean Lee
  • CB Nolan Carroll
  • S Kavon Frazier

No big surprises for the Cowboys. Sean Lee is the major name on this list but his availability has been in doubt all week. This will be the second game Lee has missed with a hamstring injury, and his absence was certainly felt in last week’s loss to the Rams. Dallas will hope that Anthony Hitchens’ return will help make up for not having Lee.

Stephen Paea, a starter in the base defense, will be out with a knee injury. This is somewhat offset by David Irving’s return from suspension, but Paea’s role as the space-eater will need to be addressed some other way. We may see Maliek Collins move to the one-technique position and see more of Irving and Tyrone Crawford playing as the three-tech tackle.

With Chidobe Awuzie coming back from injury and reportedly practicing at safety this week, Kavon Frazier lands on the inactive list for the first time this year. This means Dallas will likely look to veteran Bene Benwikere as the fourth cornerback.

Green Bay Packers

  • RB Ty Montgomery
  • G Adam Pankey
  • T David Bakhtiari
  • DT Montravius Adams
  • LB Chris Odom
  • LB Joe Thomas
  • CB Lenzy Pipkins

The big news here is the absence of Ty Montgomery, the versatile runner-receiver who has had a productive year so far for the Packers. Rookie Aaron Jones should get the bulk of the work at RB with Montgomery out, and he had a solid showing last week against the Bears.

The Packers could be vulnerable on the offensive line with starting left tackle David Bakhtiari and reserve Adam Pankey out. Journeyman Ulrick John is the next man up on the Packers’ official depth chart.

The defensive inactives for Green Bay are all reserves; they should be at full strength with their starters. These missing backups will make them thin, however, if any of their normal guys go down.
