Cowboys Practice Squad Moves: Russell and King Out, Make Room for Three Additions

Sean Martin

With just five days until their first regular season game of 2016, the Dallas Cowboys are still finalizing the final spots on their roster’s practice squad.

Ryan Russell, a fifth round pick by the team in 2015, was released days after clearing waivers and being signed to the practice squad following his initial release. Also released today was LB Deon King, who had his moments throughout training camp before making an impact in the team’s final preseason game.

Cowboys released LB Deon King, DE Ryan Russell from their PS. They signed LB Jeremiah George, Zach Moore, T Keavon Milton to the PS.

The departures of Russell and King allowed the Cowboys to officially add another DE in Zach Moore, who I scouted right here, along with LB Jeremiah George, and T Keavon Milton. The Cowboys still have one spot left on their practice squad, with their three new additions bringing the total up to nine.

Jeremiah George was most recently claimed and re-waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Prior to that, the linebacker out of Iowa State spent most of 2015 on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad – signed there via the New York Jets, who drafted George in the fifth round in 2014 only to put him on their own practice squad later on.

Milton was most recently with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. The tackle out of Louisiana-Monroe has spent time with four teams since 2013, starting with the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys’ current depth at tackle is slightly concerning, with Chaz Green not comfortably grabbing hold of the swing tackle job this preseason.

Now, Dallas has a tackle available on their practice squad, along with two defensive players that could potentially fill in holes as needed along a depleted front seven.
