Anthony Hitchens, LB
Anthony Hitchens is probably another surprising name to see on this list. But, much like DeMarcus Lawrence, he is in the last year of his contract and has an undefined role as of now on defense.
Hitchens has been a valued member of the Dallas Cowboys defense since joining the team as a rookie. The organization drafted him with the thought he would be good insurance in case of injuries, and that is exactly what he has been able to do. He has starting experience, but is probably best suited to play as a spot starter or as a backup.
Hitchens likely has Jaylon Smith to thank for his fall down the depth chart at the linebacker position. Smith is the projected starter at the middle linebacker position as of now, which could make Hitchens expendable.
It’s doubtful the Dallas Cowboys will cut Hitchens, because he still provides valuable depth and starting experience to the position. He has the versatility to play any linebacker spot, which could be enticing to another team.
I personally think Anthony Hitchens is tradable because he’s probably not in the future plans of the Cowboys. They could decide to go ahead and find a trade partner in order to receive some kind of compensation instead of seeing him walk away at the end of the season.
Of course, all of this is just speculation at this point. The Dallas Cowboys still have a lot of practices ahead of themselves before the 2017 season kicks off. These practices could go a long way in determining if these veterans make the Cowboys roster.
Everybody but Hitchens, he’s been the most consistent out of the bunch. Yall are missing one , Tyrone Crawford. Big contract low production. Rid him, lets move on already if he dont show up this year
I thought about going with Crawford, but I think the Cowboys keep him around because of his ability to play different positions on the DL. I put Hitchens on this list because he does have trade value, but like you said he is the most consistent. I wouldn’t be completely surprised if he was traded if he ends up buried on the depth chart though. That way he doesn’t walk away at the end of the season without receiving any compensation in return.
Hitchens gives your more insurance than the other positions. This defensive line needs to start fresh Crawford and Lawrence have done nothing impressive to keep them. Were keeping them because of the contract. Outside of Sean lee, maliek collins, anthony brown, and byron jones , everybody on this defense can be traded or cut
TRAVIS DIGGS Hitchens he can’t cover no speed thus the pass interference call against the Lions he is sorry and to slow The Cowboys are the slowest team in Football and one of the stupidest if this is a word Look what the Patriots Did, see they were successful with those slow receiver but they had enough common sense to add Brandin Cooks from the Saints because you need some Blazing to open everything else a real deep threat would take this offense over the top
