Anthony Hitchens, LB

Anthony Hitchens is probably another surprising name to see on this list. But, much like DeMarcus Lawrence, he is in the last year of his contract and has an undefined role as of now on defense.

Hitchens has been a valued member of the Dallas Cowboys defense since joining the team as a rookie. The organization drafted him with the thought he would be good insurance in case of injuries, and that is exactly what he has been able to do. He has starting experience, but is probably best suited to play as a spot starter or as a backup.

Hitchens likely has Jaylon Smith to thank for his fall down the depth chart at the linebacker position. Smith is the projected starter at the middle linebacker position as of now, which could make Hitchens expendable.

It’s doubtful the Dallas Cowboys will cut Hitchens, because he still provides valuable depth and starting experience to the position. He has the versatility to play any linebacker spot, which could be enticing to another team.

I personally think Anthony Hitchens is tradable because he’s probably not in the future plans of the Cowboys. They could decide to go ahead and find a trade partner in order to receive some kind of compensation instead of seeing him walk away at the end of the season.

Of course, all of this is just speculation at this point. The Dallas Cowboys still have a lot of practices ahead of themselves before the 2017 season kicks off.  These practices could go a long way in determining if these veterans make the Cowboys roster.

Do you think any of these 5 veterans will be cut or traded?
