Cowboys Sign QB Jerrod Johnson

The Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent quarterback Jerrod Johnson, who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens on Monday.

With Tony Romo and Kellen Moore injured and Dak Prescott sitting out tonight’s preseason finale, Dallas needed someone to play behind Jameil Showers. Johnson may not even see the field unless Showers gets hurt, but at least gives them an emergency option.

Johnson was an undrafted free agent in 2011 and has been with five clubs before joining the Cowboys. He is a native of Houston, Texas, so his signing may simply be a matter of logistical convenience. It is unlikely that Johnson will remain on the roster beyond Saturday’s final cuts.

To make room for the QB, Dallas released defensive lineman Zach Wood.
