Cowboys Sign Veteran OL Joe Looney, Add Depth At G/C

After the Alfred Morris and Benson Mayowa signings, it appeared the Dallas Cowboys off season spending was going to be put on hold until the draft. It was time to shut things down for free agency, knowing that some immediate needs had been filled, and really begin building the draft board.

Today, we found out that this wasn’t totally the case, as the team added veteran offensive lineman Joe Looney. Looney will be a nice replacement for Mackenzy Bernadeau, who left the Cowboys for the Jacksonville Jaguars this off season.

Bernadeau provided depth at guard as well as center, where he backed up Travis Frederick. Without him, the team was lacking depth at both spots, and the 25 year old Looney certainly provides that.

This signing comes after it was announced that Looney would visit the team along with former Detroit Lion Jason Jones.

As we get much deeper into the draft process, many Dallas fans have been wondering if this team will spend a fourth to fifth round pick on a versatile offensive linemen to add depth.

Instead, they added Looney – who started 6 games as a guard for the Titans last season. While a rookie offensive linemen could still join the team in the draft, the need is far less glaring now at the position.

We have yet to hear any further updates on the progress of Jason Jones and the team coming to terms.
