If you watch/read/pay attention to any type of sports media nowadays, it is impossible to shake the so-called “Quarterback Controversy” brewing in Dallas.
After franchise quarterback Tony Romo went down with another injury during the preseason, rookie Dak Prescott stepped in and has performed almost flawlessly. Leading the Cowboys to a 5-1 record with key wins over the division-rival Washington Redskins and playoff caliber teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers, Dak has cemented himself as the Cowboys quarterback for the future.
The question now becomes, just how soon does that future begin?
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Cowboys will have to delay that decision for at least one more game, as rookie Dak Prescott will start for the seventh consecutive week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

This means that the earliest we could see Romo active would be week 9, when the Cowboys travel to Cleveland to face the Browns. If this scenario were to play out, Romo could be set up for a triumphant return similar to Tom Brady’s when his Patriots demolished the Browns earlier this season.
Rapoport did add, however, that the Cowboys are preparing for Romo not to be ready for that week 9 match up, which could delay his return even further. The later Romo’s return is scheduled, the more time Dak Prescott will have to prove that he is either a legit replacement to the great Romo, or to falter like we haven’t seen him do to this point.
Luckily for the Cowboys, it looks like they will have two very capable quarterbacks active in just a few weeks.

Now that Dak is officially the week 8 starter, we will get to see the “Battle of the Rookie Quarterbacks” in Dallas between Dak and fellow freshman phenom, Carson Wentz.
So, for at least another two weeks, the Dak vs. Romo debate will continue. I believe Jason Garrett and this coaching staff have earned enough of our trust to wait and see how they handle it, because I can almost guarantee they will go about it the right way.
No matter who the guy ends up being and no matter which side you are fighting for, we can all agree that the Cowboys continuing to win should be the number one priority.
Good for Dak and the Cowboys. Let’s let this thing play out. Let the rookie have his day. We may all be unexpectedly rewarded.
