Hey, you. Yes, you, presumed Dallas Cowboys fan and celebrator of #VictoryPoloMonday, do you need another reason to love rookie quarterback Dak Prescott? That answer is likely no, but I’m here to once again show why Prescott is a special player – simply based on his confidence, poise, and work ethic.
Prescott’s star is shining bright to a national audience of football fans, but the rookie starting quarterback that was never part of the Cowboys’ 2016 plan for a life without Romo is handling the pressure beautifully.
Focused on the tasks at hand, Prescott has reportedly turned down plenty of endorsement deals for extra money – that would also certainly boost his “star” status.
The dual threat quarterback, a trend in-and-of-itself in the NFL right now, understands that he is merely holding down the fort until Tony Romo is indeed ready to take over, in Dak’s words, “his team” once again.
“He’s business. He loves being a Dallas Cowboy. He’s always been a Cowboys fan, and it’s kind of like it’s just meant to be.” – Jeff Guerriero, Dak Prescott’s Agent
Think about it. It would be so easy for Prescott, who grew up a Dallas Cowboys fan, to run with this being his team and never look back. Nothing Tony Romo can do will heal him any faster, so we know that Prescott will at least have to make a few more starts. In that span, the pride of Mississippi State could sign all the endorsements he wants, stand in front of the media proclaiming that he is the next Troy Aikman, and absolutely own America’s Team as a fourth-round rookie who was the seventh quarterback taken in the draft.
Instead, the 23-year old has already learned from some life mistakes, arrested for a DUI in his college town just over a month before the draft. Prescott was later found not guilty on the first day of Cowboys’ training camp, and has moved forward ever since.
For just a second here, remember just how bad the 2015 Dallas Cowboys were without Tony Romo. No matter the backup quarterback, that team was simply inept.
When Romo suddenly went down again in the preseason dress rehearsal, there was little reason to objectively look at this roster and say, “2016 will be different”.
“He’s got a poise and a composure about him that’s beyond his years.” – Jason Garrett
2016 has indeed been different through just two games. Dak, playing meaningful games against divisional foes, has yet to turn the ball over even a single time. Prescott is that difference in the perfect way, the right kind of guy to be living his near-perfect life in the silver and blue.
I am BEYOND excited for our future with this dude! Was at the game Sunday (with the other half of the Cowboy fans in the stadium!) and he looked just as great in person. Know there will be some tough games ahead but we will enjoy every one along the way. Arrow definitely pointing up for this guy and this franchise! #GoCowboys
