Dallas Cowboys Call Off Immediate Search For Veteran Quarterback

RJ Ochoa

It’s been a stressful couple of days in Twitterland for Cowboys Nation.

The week got off to a weird start when quarterback Kellen Moore suffered what seems to be a season-ending injury on Tuesday night. Tyrone Crawford is still having back issues. Zeke Elliott is having hamstring whatchamacallits, and the Cowboys were actually seriously considering trading for Cleveland’s Josh McCown.

You know that scene in the movies where some dude cuts the wire with 0:02 left on the clock and saves everyone’s lives? Allow me to present ESPN’s Ed Werder as “some dude” in today’s movie:

WE GOT OURSELVES A DUB-A-YOO BA-BAY!

The fact that the Cowboys were about to give up assets for a backup position considering the other holes on this team (um hello pass rush, nice to see that you aren’t here) was perplexing to anyone with a brain (sorry Eli Manning, you’re disqualified).

This news also suggests that the Cowboys are:

  • Comfortable with Tony Romo’s health status.
  • Excited about what they have in Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers.
  • Not dumb.

While the Cowboys have called this specific project quits, they’re still working on others.

We’ll have you updated on all of the developments for both of these situations here at Inside The Star.

  1. They may have called off the search but they still need a veteran QB. Prescott and Showers are very unlikely to be ready to be the 2nd team QB for Dallas in 2016. The 2nd team QB position is a critical position for the team, especially with T Romo's injury history and age. They must ASAP find a good veteran QB. The veteran needs to learn the Dallas offense/playbook during the preseason. In the mean time it is great that Prescott and Showers are getting extra reps. This will help with their learning and development for the future.

  2. Cowboys will be fine. I like the idea of the younger players getting reps, instead of leaning on re-treads.

  3. Me too. At this point it's time to roll the dice on guys you've liked before. Don't get cute.
