Dallas Cowboys First-Round Pick Byron Jones Signs Rookie Contract

Byron Jones has officially signed his rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys used their first round draft pick, the 27th overall selection, on the University of Connecticut defensive back in this year’s NFL Draft.

The terms of rookie deals haven’t exactly been breaking news the last few years, due to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement; however, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer Byron Jones was guaranteed $7 million. According to Rainer Sabin of The Dallas Morning News, Byron’s contract is worth $8.6 million over four years, with the $7 million guaranteed as Todd Archer reported. Byron received a $4.5 million signing bonus so drinks are on him tonight! Jones was the last remaining unsigned rookie, so the Cowboys now have the entire class of 2015 under contract.

Jones addresses a need that has been a thorn in the Cowboys’ side for quite some time. His skill set in the secondary has been obvious from day one, as he has already shined brightly in Organized Team Activities. With the team’s official, and mandatory, minicamp coming up next week we’ll hopefully get to see how the newly paid man can cover Dez Bryant.

So kick up your feet and relax. The rookies are signed, the Eagles released Evan Mathis, and life is good.
