The running back position is an interesting one for the Dallas Cowboys.
On Thursday Jerry and Co. inked Lance Dunbar to a new one-year contract, but that merely doubled the amount of bodies they have on their depth chart to two.
The Cowboys have been relatively frugal in Free Agency thus far, only re-signing their own and bringing in one outside player in Cedric Thornton. That could change come Monday.

This is a move that has felt like it was in the works for a long time. I speculated prior to the second day of Free Agency that the Cowboys would kick the tires on a running back of Alfred’s caliber.
Before you scoff that away consider the following regarding Alfred Morris:
- He is just 27 years old.
- He has never missed a game in his career.
- He has gone over 1,000 yards three out of four times in his career.
- He is a 2-time Pro Bowler.
- He will be cheap.
The bargain bin has been the Dallas Cowboys’ best friend these days, and that appears to be the case with the Morris visit. This move would be very similar to the one the Front Office made a year ago when they signed Darren McFadden.
Where the move does differ from DMC though is in Morris’ durability. As I stated, the young back has started every game in his NFL career… given the shaky health of both McFadden and Dunbar this could come in quite handy in the latter points of the season.
Morris, DMC, and the newly re-signed Dunbar could form an interesting trio of running backs. The Cowboys are assumed to be taking a running back at some point in the upcoming NFL Draft, and if those are the four that they enter 2016 with then you can expect great things behind this offensive line.
