Dallas Cowboys Re-Sign LB Ernie Sims to One-Year Contract

The news out of Valley Ranch today is that the Dallas Cowboys re-signed veteran linebacker Ernie Sims to a one-year $715,000 salary.

Sims was an asset to the team last year after injuries sidelined Sean Lee and Bruce Carter.

Sims was then credited with 42 tackles and one sack.  That stat line doesn’t tell the whole story though.  Sims was all over the place when given his opportunity.  He wasn’t flawless but played with heart and reckless abandon and provided stability to weak area on a floundering defense.

Sims is the ultimate depth linebacker.  He can play all three positions in the 4-3 and get his share of snaps.  This deal is team friendly and answers a lot of questions about what the Cowboys were going to do moving forward.

This move puts the Cowboys back over the cap $540,000. They will need to reallocate money prior to the NFL draft.
