It’s no secret that the Dallas Cowboys are one of, if not, the most talked about sports franchise in the world. That comes with a large price, especially when a team talks up one of the worst figures of sports over the past year in Greg Hardy. This media attention can truly effect a franchise and the way in which its going. Now, I’m not saying that the reason for the Cowboys’ failure in 2015 was because of the negative attention following the team, but I do believe that played a part.
It was reported Tuesday morning that Robert Griffin III, yes the Robert Griffin III that knocked the Cowboys out of the 2012 NFL playoffs.

With the 2015 season coming to a close, the Cowboys hold the fourth pick in this year’s draft. And with needs all over the roster, there are a variety of directions the Cowboys go in. However, one thing that is for sure is that Tony Romo is not getting a younger and the time is now to start to look at who will be his heir apparent.
So even though Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch make sense at the top of Round 1, or even a guy in the middle rounds like Kevin Hogan, there still seems to be some chatter that Griffin III would be a good fit in Dallas.
With Romo, the Cowboys have their quarterback for the next four years. Romo’s contract expires at the end of the 2019 season and by that time, he will be 39 years old. And remember, this is if all things go well. Romo has gone through two back major surgeries as well as three left clavicle injuries, so to say he’ll be able to play the next four seasons without a problem may just be a little bit of a stretch.
This is why sitting and developing quarterbacks makes the most sense. With Griffin III, the Cowboys would be bringing in a guy who is known for his stubbornness and arrogance within an organization. While Griffin III could very well find the spark that he had in his rookie year, the reality is that Griffin III has a lot of wear-and-tear, most notably three leg surgeries, two of which were ACL injuries.
One thing I’d like to see out of Dallas in 2016 is to be more quiet. In 2014, the Cowboys handled their business very well, but when you bring in egotistical guys like a Hardy or a Griffin III, it take a toll on the rest of your 53-man roster.
Jason Garrett’s M.O. is RKG, meaning “Right Kinda Guy”. If you give him the guys he wants, you’ll have success, but if Jerry Jones lets his emotions get the best of him, the Cowboys could find themselves in a situation in 2016 much similar to the one they were in in 2015, a media circus. This is a football franchise, not a media frenzy. By bringing on Griffin III, the Cowboys drift off the course of a Super Bowl-aspiration team.
