We all know the high expectations surrounding the Dallas Cowboys 2015 season. The offense as a whole stayed intact and there were numerous upgrades on defense. There’s talk of, not only an NFC East Division title, but raising the Lombardi trophy at Levi’s Stadium.
Football is a team effort–from the front office down to the 53rd man on the roster. All must contribute to do their part for the team to have success. The one player this year that must continue to succeed in his role is none other than the great Dan Bailey.
Bailey will enter the 2015 season with a career field goal percentage of 89.8% per NFL.com.
That is going to have to continue in order for the Cowboys to be successful this year, considering that extra points are now essentially a 33-yard attempt. Looking at the Cowboys upcoming schedule, the thing that jumped out immediately to me was the December road games at Green Bay, Washington, and Buffalo.
While I can’t predict the weather or the supposed global warming effect, I’ll just pretend like I’m an Idaho weather reporter and say that it will probably be cold with a 50/50 chance of wind and snow for all three games.
It’s inevitable that one if not all three games will be close, with the potential game-winning field goal or extra point resting on the right leg of Bailey.
There’s also the possibility that one of those games could be the NFC East division clincher that could propel the Cowboys toward playoff home field advantage to begin their Super Bowl 50 run.
In the past, Bailey had been automatic on extra point attempts. So, when the Cowboys scored a touchdown, it was the perfect time (for me at least), to get a much-needed bathroom break and replace the defective beer can–they always seem to have a hole in the bottom or be half empty on game day.
It won’t be as automatic on Sunday the 27th in Buffalo if the snow is blowing sideways over a frozen field, with Bailey about to attempt the 33-yard extra point to give the Cowboys the lead and secure home field for the playoffs.
If Dallas is going have a successful season in 2015, they’re going to have to hope that Bailey will continue with his success and accuracy. Every game matters, every point matters–a missed or made extra point could make or break the Cowboys season. So raise your glass and make a toast to Dan Bailey continuing with his tried and true ways.
