With the 2017 NFL Draft looming, the Cowboys are hoping to change the mantra that they lack “difference makers” on the defensive line in a big way. If you ask Cowboys Nation though, there is one current player on the roster that has fans genuinely excited about his development – David Irving.
David Irving has proved to be a steal for the Cowboys via the Chiefs practice squad in 2015, where he showed some flashes as the athletic freak Rod Marinelli covets for his defensive front. Having his first season in Dallas shortened due to injury, Irving then broke onto the scene in 2016 as both a defensive tackle and rush end with four sacks and four forced fumbles.

Irving was officially tendered by the Dallas Cowboys on March 6th, and now as of yesterday his return to the team for 2017 is official with David Irving signing his exclusive rights tender worth $615,000.

If this is the last bit of Cowboys “free agency” news we get before the draft, here’s hoping we are not just a few months away from collectively convincing ourselves in the summer heat of Oxnard that David Irving will fix all of this team’s defensive woes.
Retaining this developing star was a priority for the Cowboys, and one they handled very well – much like the rest of their offseason to date. Time to surround Irving with some more “war daddies”.
