DE Damontre Moore Returns from Suspension; LB Jayrone Elliott Released

Cowboys defensive end Damontre Moore has served his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance policy and has rejoined the team. The Cowboys waived linebacker Jayrone Elliott to make room on the 53-man roster.

Moore was charged with a DWI last year while a member of the Seattle Seahawks. The Cowboys signed him knowing this suspension was coming, believing he could bring some help to the defense’s woeful pass rush.

Moore validated the Cowboys faith with an exemplary preseason, tying Taco Charlton for the team lead with two sacks. He was a consistent backfield disruptor, though most of that was against second-string offensive linemen.

The Cowboys have already enjoyed some improved pass rush thanks to DeMarcus Lawrence, who has started the season with an astounding four sacks in just two games. They need plenty more, though, and especially right now with injuries in the secondary. Hopefully, Damontre Moore continues to noise now that the real games have started.

As for the departed Jayrone Elliott, he was added after final cuts when Dallas sent a conditional 2018 seventh-round pick to the Green Bay Packers. Elliott neing released so quickly means those conditions were likely not met, so we can assume the Cowboys still have their draft pick.

  1. What I saw from Moore in PS is a big motor. My chips right now at RDE are on Tapper and Moore. Taco and Irving will probably rotate all across the DL as Lawrence takes over LDE.

I would not move Lawrence around at this point – starting to roll at his natural LDE position.

    • I am in full agreement on Lawrence. Let the guy be a terror for opposing Right Tackles and figure out the rest from there. And if he starts drawing double teams and chips, all the better for everyone else.
