Cowboys Nation has grown to love NFL Network for our football fix over the past few years, with team icons like Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders repeatedly defending the Cowboys to a national audience.
However, after rookie QB Dak Prescott led the Dallas Cowboys to their first 2016 victory in Washington, Hall of Fame corner back Deion Sanders proclaimed on the network – with little explanation – that Tony Romo will not get his job back as the starting quarterback for America’s Team once he is healthy, instead remaining a backup to Prescott.
Sanders sounded confident in his “no”, which should come as a shock to Cowboys’ faithful. We all love Dak Prescott, as we absolutely should. The fourth-round rookie has already allowed us to hold some hope for the future, while also being capable enough to keep this team relevant until Romo is healthy.
Once fully healthy though, this is Tony Romo’s team, and nobody should be doubting that. Romo has given just about everything he can to the Dallas Cowboys organization, and probably could have retired right after his injury in Seattle.
Instead, he’s decided to watch again from the sidelines as the Cowboys fight without him, anxiously awaiting the day he can step back on the field.
Undoubtedly my favorite moment from yesterday’s win was seeing Tony on the sidelines when Kirk Cousins’ desperation Hail Mary attempt went incomplete – ending the game. The smile on his face was hopeful, that 2016 was not lost, and in fact just getting started. As Jason Garrett would tell you, Dak Prescott is going to do his job, and then pass the torch back to Tony Romo to try to write a storybook season for the silver and blue.
So, Deion Sanders, Tony Romo will be getting his job back sometime soon – because we all believe he’s been one of the best at his job in the entire league for quite a while.
