As I reported earlier this week, the Cowboys were asking Doug Free to take some pay cuts in anticipation of free-agent Tyson Clabo.
But, Free isn’t happy about the proposed cuts.
CBS reported that Free “anticipates not being with the Cowboys” as of June 1, showing up that he is less than okay with the proposed substantial reduction to his $7 million salary.
The Cowboys have said they “really like” Clabo, and have had their eye on him all week. Sources have said Clabo may be willing to settle for a one-year $4 million deal. But, with where Clabo is sitting right now, he could be earning more somewhere else.
Sources reported that Dallas wants a response from Free before Monday.
“We want him back,’’ Dallas exec Stephen Jones said. “We’d love to have him here. I think he’d love to be here. Now the question is, it’s got to work for him and it’s got to work for us. I have all the respect in the world for Doug. He works his ass off.’’
