As we get ready for Sunday’s Week 8 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, here’s a quick look at the injury sitatuons for both teams.
The following is based on the teams’ Friday practices:
DNP – Did Not Practice
LP – Limited Participant
Dallas Cowboys
- QB Tony Romo (back) – DNP
- RB Lance Dunbar (knee) – LP
- WR Dez Bryant (knee) – LP
- OT Tyron Smith (back) – LP
- OT Chaz Green (foot) – DNP
- DE DeMarcus Lawrence (back/shoulder) – LP
- DE Ryan Davis (hamstring) – DNP
- DT David Irving (ankle) – LP
- CB Orlando Scandrick (hamstrings) – LP
Tony Romo made an appearance on Thursday as a limited practice participant but sat out again yesterday. Dak Prescott was declared the starter for this week’s game early in the bye week.
Although limited this week, several key offensive players are expected to play. Most notably, Dez Bryant will make his return since an injury in Week 3. The Cowboys offense has been gaining momentum for weeks and bringing Dez into the mix should be fun to watch.
Running back Lance Dunbar is also expected to return, having missed a few weeks with his own knee issue. It’s hard to project what role he will have now that Ezekiel Elliott has emerged as such a dominant player.
On defense, Dallas will be getting another big name back as Orlando Scandrick makes his return. He has missed the last four games with hamstring issues. Though he will play, Scandrick will be used conservatively. Dallas has that luxury thanks to the exceptional play of rookie Anthony Brown.
On the defensive line, DeMarcus Lawrence and David Irving are both expected to play despite nagging injuries. Two of the Cowboys most disruptive linemen, they will hopefully be able to frustrate young Carson Wentz.
Philadelphia Eagles
- DT Bennie Logan (groin) – DNP
- DT Taylor Hart (ankle) – DNP
- LB Kamu Grugier-Hill (hamstring) – DNP
- CB Ron Brooks (quad tear)
– Moved to IR
Starting defensive tackle Bennie Logan will miss the game with a groin injury. Our own Brian Martin covered this in detail earlier today, discussing the opportunities it now presents for Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys’ rushing attack.
Earlier this week, Philadelphia placed slot corner Ron Brooks on Injured Reserve after he suffered a quadriceps tear against the Vikings. There has been talk that safety Malcolm Jenkins will play the slot as the Eagles’ backup corners are both rookies. Whatever the adjustment is, this is good news for Cole Beasley.
The other two players on the Eagles’ injury report are backups with minimal roles.
