It was the great poet Carly Rae Jepsen who once said, “I really really really really really really like you! And I want you. Do you want me? Do you want me, too?”
The Canadian singer/songwriter probably had NFL Free Agency on her mind when she wrote that little diddy, wouldn’t you say? It’s the only thing that makes sense!
There are a ton of players that teams really really like. They like these players so much that they’ve signed them to lucrative deals with 18 bajillion dollars guaranteed. If you’d like to see who’s signed where you can at Inside The Star’s Current List Of Free Agent Signings.
If you peruse that list you’ll see that the only action going on for the Dallas Cowboys is the re-signing of Rolando McClain. Hooray!
Fans are starting to get a little restless. Teams are getting new toys and that’s just not fair! We want new toys, too! Well we may not have shown up at the launch of said toys, but the Cowboys are certainly looking over some to add to their collection.
Chris Long, Defensive End
The Cowboys are in the market for a pass rusher.
We’ve already seen the big names (Olivier Vernon, Mario Williams, Charles Johnson, etc.) find homes. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys have their eyes on one who is a former Second Overall Pick.
Chris Long’s NFL pedigree doesn’t just come from his draft selection spot, it comes from his last name. Chris’s Dad is Pro Football Hall of Famer, and FOX analyst, Howie Long. Saucy.
Long hasn’t had too much success over the last two years, but a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that he only played 18 games over that time. The last time that Long played a full 16 games was 2013 and he put 8.5 sacks on the board in the process.

Chris Long isn’t exactly the most formidable pass rusher on the market right now, but he’s a great leader in the locker room. Head Coach Jason Garrett is very adamant about getting the “right kind of guys” in there to lead. Perhaps the next leader of the bunch is Chris Long, we know he likes the Cowboys uniforms at the very least judging by an old tweet of his.
Matt Moore, Quarterback
Stafford. Ryan. Schaub. Flynn. Barkley. McGloin. Cassel.
It seems that the abbreviated version of the name Matthew leads most quarterbacks to becoming quite the doorMatt over their careers. Ba-dum-psh!
The Cowboys ditched a Matt from 2015, Cassel who signed with the Tennessee Titans so he could hang out with DeMarco Murray, and are in the market for another one! It just so happens that this coincides with their need for a backup quarterback. Funny, right?
In all seriousness the Cowboys are in drastic need of an understudy to Tony Romo, who just underwent surgery on his collarbone. Moore is a familiar face to the Cowboys organization as it was America’s Team who gave Matt his first shot in the NFL after he went undrafted in 2007. Moore has gone on to play for both the Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins, amassing a 13-12 starting record in the process.
Perhaps the Cowboys will get their new Matt, I mean quarterback, when Moore shows up for his visit with them.
Cedric Thornton, Defensive Tackle
Rod Marinelli likes options on his defensive line and he always wants more.
In order to satisfy Coach Marinelli the Cowboys are bringing in a former Eagle for a visit who seems destined to be a Cowboy, he was born in Star City, Cedric Thornton.
Thornton has had a pretty quiet NFL career since going undrafted in 2011. He’s got four career sacks to his name, but he did score a defensive touchdown in 2014 so he’s got that going for him! What’s most notable about Cedric is that he’s started 45/48 games over the last three seasons. That’s the kind of consistency the Cowboys like.
This feels like the same sort of move that the Cowboys have been making an annual tradition in regards to the defensive line rotation. They’ve gotten production out of guys like George Selvie, Jeremy Mincey, Terrell McClain, and Nick Hayden. Let’s toss Thornton into that mix and see what happens.
Alfred Morris, Running Back
There’s no official word on anything related to Alfred Morris, I just feel this one in the ‘ol gut.
The Cowboys seem hellbent on the notion that anyone can run behind this offensive line. They lost out on Lamar Miller to the Houston Texans, ugh, and even a big name guy in Matt Forte to the New York Jets.
Don’t panic now, but you need to know this. The only Running Back that is currently on the Dallas Cowboys roster is Darren McFadden. That’s a fact.
Fan favorite Lance Dunbar has a visit scheduled with the San Francisco 49ers, so who knows what will happen with Chip Kelly and another Cowboy ball-carrier. Dallas could be seriously considering a big time rookie in the draft now, but they’re still going to need bodies at the position.
Alfred Morris is coming off of the worst season in his young career in terms of yards, touchdowns, and yards per attempt (so basically everything important). What’s important to remember here is that he’s been to two Pro Bowls and is still only 27 years old.
Morris hails from Pensacola, Florida. The Cowboys have had success before with a particular Running Back from that city (Emmitt Smith aka the NFL’s All-Time Leading Rusher aka WHOA). Alfred is worth considering, especially given the lack of depth at the position currently.
Which of this bunch do you think has a shot to legitimately wear the Star? Let us know! Comment below, Email me at RJ@RJOchoaShow.com, or Tweet to me at @rjochoa!
