There are officially 93 days until the toe meets the ball at AT&T Stadium where the Dallas Cowboys will host the New York Giants on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
It’s Friday! In exactly 13 weeks, we’ll all be:
- 13 weeks older.
- Talking about the Greatest 2 in Dallas Cowboys History.
- Waking up to talk about the previous night’s matchup between the World Champion New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Since that day of reckoning is in fact 13 weeks away all we have to talk about today is how bonkers Chip Kelly has gone, pushing yet another seasoned veteran out of the City of Brotherly Love. If you don’t feel like doing that, or watching Riley Curry celebrate her MVP dad’s Game 4 win on Sportscenter, let me invite you to scope out exactly who the Greatest #93 in Dallas Cowboys History is.
The following players have all worn 93 for the Dallas Cowboys:
- Kenyon Coleman, DE (Coleman was featured on both our 99 and 98 lists)
- Reggie Cooper, LB
- Artie Smith, DE
- Anthony Spencer, DE
- Mike Ulufale, DT
- Peppi Zellner, DE
First of all, let’s all say “Ulufale” and “Peppi Zellner” out loud … wasn’t that fun? You know what else is fun? Rushing the quarterback. Nobody on this list had more fun doing that than our #93 champion, Anthony Spencer. Taken with the 26th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Purdue, Anthony Spencer quickly became a great pass rushing partner to our Greatest 94 in Dallas Cowboys History, DeMarcus Ware. He took the torch from Greg Ellis and developed alongside Ware as a Pro Bowl level defensive end. He performed so well that he received the franchise tag two years in a row (2012 and 2013), a rare occurrence for any player.
While there isn’t a lot of competition at 93 in Dallas Cowboys History, Spencer certainly isn’t lacking in prestige. He’s got 273 tackles, 33 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, and he even scored a touchdown in his final regular season game as a Cowboy in Washington last year. Spencer is actually the only Cowboy #93 to get into the end zone. How sugary sweet is it that it came off of an RGIII fumble?
Spencer has moved on from the Cowboys and will be suiting up for the New Orleans Saints, and his old defensive coordinator here Rob Ryan, in 2015. While we are grateful for the good times and hope he enjoys the cajun food, it’s going to be all business lining up against him when the Cowboys visit the Superdome on Sunday Night come October 4th!
