Frank and Joe have nothing on the newest Hardy in town. Come on down, Greg! The Kraken, as he is affectionately known, is the newest cat (no pun intended as he is a former Carolina Panther) around town with a Star on his helmet. Holy crap, this is something to get excited about! Here’s a little about the Kraken:
- The Ole Miss product was drafted in the 6th round (175th overall) in the 2010 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers.
- He’s listed at 6’4” weighing in at 279 lbs. and he turns 27 this summer.
- In his brief career Hardy has 34 sacks, 142 tackles, 7 forced fumbles, and 2 safeties.
One of the Cowboys’ largest weaknesses over the last few years has suddenly become a strength. NFL sophomore DeMarcus Lawrence is looking to channel the brilliance that he showed in our playoff win against the Lions, and Tyrone Crawford is going to continue to grow into the middle presence we need. We will undoubtedly draft a rookie defensive lineman who can join this crew chasing after QBs on Sundays.
Greg Hardy’s deal with the Cowboys is a one-year gig worth $11.3 million. He only counts against the salary cap for $2.6 million as his contract comes with pre-game bonuses… meaning that he gets paid for every game that he is on the 53-man roster.
It’s a great situation for both the Cowboys and Greg Hardy. He can earn up to $13.1 million in bonuses, but his contract has a very low base with no guarantees. If things don’t go as anticipated the Cowboys can walk away at a low cost. If things go as expected though, watch out. The Kraken is coming!
