The Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo have agreed on a six year deal worth $108 million. The deal includes a $25 million signing bonus and $55 million guaranteed. He is now the second highest paid quarterback in the NFL behind Tom Brady on a per year basis, but the deal is more guaranteed than the one Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco received. This will also allow the Cowboys to save $5 million against the cap.
According to the feedback I have received this has caused a split in the Dallas Cowboys community. Romo has won the only playoff game for the Cowboys since the departure of Troy Aikman. He has accumulated 25,737 yards, 177 touchdowns and 91 interceptions. Not everyone is going to appreciate this contract, especially Donovan McNabb.
This deal is good for the Cowboys since this will now allow them to pursue any possible free agents before the draft to fill holes. This however will not change any draft strategy by the Cowboys, quarterback was not a huge need moving into the draft. This will put a lot of fan/media pressure on Jerry Jones to protect the highest paid player in Dallas Cowboys history.
