The Dallas Cowboys won one of the ugliest and weirdest football games of the season on Monday night. At least how Jerry Jones sees it, the Cowboys ‘won off will, and not tactical mastery.” It’s been a long season for the Cowboys. At 4-8, with two major injuries to Tony Romo, Cowboys fans don’t have a lot to cheer about regarding this season. Usually, when your signal-caller and franchise player goes down for injury, the head coach normally gets a pass, but it looks as if Jerry Jones doesn’t see it that way.
Talking to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Jones had this to say about the 2015 coaching staff:
“I am stunned that we haven’t been able to win more games without Tony… And I would have thought that we could have coached it up enough, and put it together enough, that we would not have lost those games without Romo early. We would be in better shape than we are right now.”
The comments are extremely surprising considering the injuries the Cowboys have been dealt with throughout the season. For a team that had Super Bowl aspirations going into the 2015 season, injuries really have turned this team into the bottom-feeder of the NFC East, even though they still find themselves just one game out of the division.
Despite Jones’ comments, Garrett is in the first year of a five-year deal. People have criticized Garrett before, but it should be said that Garrett’s at his best when he is managing the roster, growing the team, and letting his coordinators coach and his players play. Unfortunately for Garrett, Jones, and really Cowboys fans everywhere, he’s been without his best guy and it’s shown throughout the season.
This is jerrys way of letting everybody know their might be a change. I think special teams coach is soooo gone nothing will save him.
What about the quarterback coach, hasn't been able to coach up the backup quarterback position or develop a heir apparent.
Special Teams? What's been wrong with those? Whitehead is averaging 35 yards on six kickoff returns. Coverage has been more than solid. Dan Bailey is a god. Chris Jones is as good as he's ever been.
Can't argue with complaints about Wade Wilson's work with Weeden and Cassel, but can't say he's had much opportunity to develop an heir. What's he had to work with?
I think we're probably reading a little too much into these comments Jerry made. Any time you go on a 7-game losing streak, it's a given that you're disappointed in the job the coaches have done. They had a chance to win all but one of those 7 games, so all other things being equal you'd think they'd have at least won a couple of them.
I don't think this reflects on Jason Garrett. His main job right now since he's not a coordinator is keeping the team motivated and prepared to play. The one thing the team has never failed to do is fight hard in these games. It's tough to keep your team focused through a 7-game losing streak, but Garrett has done a fine job of that. He does share in the offensive failure, although being as he no longer calls the plays I believe his influence is somewhat limited, especially with the success Linehan had last year.
I have been disappointed substantially in Scott Linehan. I'm starting to think that perhaps the only reason he seemed like a great coordinator last year was because of DeMarco Murray's success in the run game. As soon as Romo got injured, Linehan shut down the offense and tried to call the games as though we had a potent rushing attack. He has opened things up a bit now that we've got Cassel at the helm, but really the offense still has enough weapons without Tony Romo that they should be a lot better than they are.
People want to rip on Marinelli for the lack of turnovers, but the fact is that he has been forced to run a different passing defense than what he would normally run because we don't have cornerbacks who excel in zone coverage. He ran a lot of zone last year and it led to more turnovers but also led to more passing yards allowed. Last year they were the 7th worst team in the league in pass defense. This year they are the 5th best team in the league in that category. Marinelli has achieved this through more man coverage, but man coverage doesn't put defenders in a good position for turnovers.
I could see them shaking up the coaching staff a little after this season, but not much. I think Jerry is venting frustration just like all of us have done.
Yeah, I was really shocked to hear him say that but then again he didn't call out anyone specific by name and I don't think there will be any changes.
Yes , maybe a coaching change is needed for the Dallas. Definitely there is urgent need for QB secondary as well. We have been on the losing streak for quite some time now and it needs to change. Just a strong suggestion speak with coach for the Saints. Just a hint!!!
Maybe they need a new general manager.
Jerry Should be unhappy with himself. He hired this clown over really good coaches.
