With free agency right around the corner, the Cowboys have a needs list that seems impossible to fill. The Cowboys could use upgrades at defensive end, defensive tackle, safety, linebacker and wide receiver. One position that continues to be overlooked is quarterback.
Queue Josh Freeman.
That’s right, I said Josh Freeman.
Kyle Orton is rumored to be mulling retirement and the Cowboys have zero depth behind Tony Romo, who is recovering from off-season back surgery. Even if the Cowboys decided to invest in a QB in the 2014 NFL Draft they could get some serious value from a young veteran who can push and teach younger talent while providing the franchise some confidence in the event Romo gets injured again.
It’s believed that Freeman can be had cheap and while he has had his struggles lately, he’s still fielding a career stat-line that shows a 57.6 completion percentage, a 95/80 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 11 yards per completion. Not bad for a 26 year old 5 year veteran who hasn’t had a ton of support or a defined role during his career.
Freeman would provide the Cowboys stability behind Romo and allow them to draft a project quarterback who would take time to develop, Aaron Murray for example. He’s worth a look if he’s got a low price tag and is willing to go to an organization that is using him specifically as a contingency plan.

I would hate to see this happen Bo. In Jerry’s mind he would think Dallas already has the young developmental prospect on the team. It would preclude him from drafting another. Jerry hates looking for a qb.
