New NFL drug policy could lift Scandrick’s suspension

The league is voting on a new drug policy that will effect players who were suspended for using certain drugs. Of course, none of this would be happening right now if Wes Welker hadn’t failed a drug test earlier in the year, but that’s for another debate.

For the Cowboys, Orlando Scandrick found out he would be suspended for the first 4 games of the season about midway through training camp. He was suspended for taking something that, under the old league drug policy, was considered a performance enhancer. However, Scandrick didn’t take anything to enhance his performance; he took something that would enhance his brain to see wonderful colorful things.

Well, after Wes Welker was found guilty of the same thing earlier in the year a whole new drug policy is going to be voted on. By the time this piece is published the vote will already be in the books and those players who have been on suspension will see that suspension lifted and be able to play this Sunday.

So that means the Cowboys get back their best defensive back on the team. And that also means Scandrick will take over for Mo Claiborne at #1, who seems to still be struggling with a number of things.

Even though Scandrick will take back the starting spot Claiborne will still see plenty of playing time when teams go to a three WR set. Scandrick will move into the slot and Claiborne will go back to his old position on the outside.

The Cowboys need all the good players they can get on defense, and getting Scandrick back means they are getting back their best defensive player.
