The New York Giants have stumbled their way to losses in four of their last five games, and have seen a prime chance at winning the weak NFC East slip away. They face an offseason of many questions, as everything from the team personnel to the coaching staff will be evaluated.
They should have a good amount of cap space to work with, but not after dealing with their own significant free agents.
New York Giants 2016 Free Agents
Jason Pierre-Paul DE
Pierre-Paul was the talk of plenty of offseason discussion when his fireworks incident left him with a club for a hand. Even still, Pierre-Paul has been a bright spot on a Giants defense that lacks playmakers at every level.
With money to spend, I expect Pierre-Paul to return to the Giants in 2016.
Prince Amukamara CB
Amukamara is a very interesting free agent for the Giants. Drafted 19th overall in 2011, he has had his ups and downs with the team. As mentioned, the entire Giants defense needs a rebuild – and I won’t be surprised if they plan on making Amukamara a part of that process or not.
George Selvie DE
Former Cowboys George Selvie has recorded one sack this year with the Giants, playing on a one year deal. With multiple free agents along the defensive line to deal with, I do not expect Selvie to return to the Giants in 2016.
Rueben Randle WR
The Giants are thin at the receiver position outside of Odell Beckham Jr. Eli Manning threw for just 234 yards and one score, while throwing three picks, without Beckham in the lineup for week 16. Randle will most certainly return to Big Blue next season.
Jasper Brinkley LB
The Giants linebacker core might be the biggest sore spot of this defense. Brinkley is the only free agent of this group, and it’s basically a toss-up on whether or not he returns.
Orleans Darkwa RB
The Giants have not had a single running back step up to take over the lead role this season, but Orleans Darkwa has shown some positive signs in his first year with the team and second in the league. The Giants should feasibly be able to bring Darkwa back at a very low cost, or they could move on and open up even more cap space.
Lastly, I will revisit the Dallas Cowboys free agents coming up at Inside the Star. Click here to see key free agents from the Eagles and Redskins as well.
