Cowboys Running Back Carousel Stops At Ezekiel Elliott

The greatest running back in the history of the National Football League, Emmitt Smith, played for the Dallas Cowboys. A fellow Pro Football Hall of Fame running back, Tony Dorsett, preceded Emmitt as the ball carrier for America’s Team. This is a team with a rich history when it comes to running backs. For a long time all Dallas Cowboys fans have been able to hang their hat on regarding the running back position – is history. In the Tony Romo era, which current Cowboys fans know very well, we’ve had the likes of Julius Jones, Marion Barber III, Tashard Choice, Phillip Tanner, Felix Jones, and DeMarco Murray tote the rock.

How Ezekiel Elliott Improves All Phases Of The Game

As this past week moved along and we inched closer to the start of the NFL Draft, the fight for Ezekiel Elliott seemed like a lost one. All signs seemed to point to Jalen Ramsey, that is, unless the Chargers snatched him first. Instead the Cowboys decided to sort of shock the world with their selection of Elliott at #4 overall with Ramsey still available. It is easy to get excited about the selection of Zeke. Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, and now Zeke Elliott with that incredible Offensive Line in front of them gives this offense a chance to win each and every week.

The Dallas Cowboys Select Ezekiel Elliott at #4

This past Christmas, I wrote about how the Dallas Cowboys can further build around their star-studded offensive line to win games.  Tonight, in an event that many fans refer to as “Football Christmas”, the Cowboys gave us this answer – drafting running back Ezekiel Elliott out of Ohio State University with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Elliott is one of the most dynamic running back prospects we have seen come out of college over the past few seasons, thriving in a zone-running scheme with the Buckeyes. We all know the narrative far too well by now. DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing in 2014 behind this offensive line.
