One question regarding future of the quarterback position is when is the time to draft to the future heir of Tony Romo. Now may be the best time with the news that broke today as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

One does have to take in account that nothing has been confirmed at this point. Head coach Jason Garrett said during his Monday press conference that Romo is listed as day to day at this point. They will move forward with Kyle Orton as their starting quarterback in the mean time. They will also bring in David Carr, John Skelton and Tyler Thigpen to tryout for the vacant backup quarterback spot.
Quarterback was already a position that would need to be addressed but the Romo injury news may push that priority closer to the top. The Cowboys aren’t likely to use a first rounder on a quarterback over a defensive end or tackle but if their guy isn’t there I wouldn’t put it past Jerry.
Some quarterbacks may have jumped into the picture that wasn’t on their radar until today’s news. Some of the names I would keep my eye on is David Fales of San Jose St, AJ McCarron of Alabama, Aaron Murray of Georiga and Jimmy Garappolo of Eastern Illinois.
According to Mike Fisher, this injury stems from the cyst he had removed back in April. If this is to become a lingering issue there isn’t a round that is too high to find a quarterback. On my wishlist is Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr but that would come with the price tag of a first round selection.
