Five Defensive Players That Need To Step Up In 2016

Yesterday I shared with you five offensive players that need to step up in 2016, and today I thought I would take a look at the other side of the ball and express what defensive players I think need to step up their game for the 2016 season. In 2015, the Dallas Cowboys defense under the guidance of defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli performed admirably and actually kept the team in games that were close enough to win, if the offensive performance would have been a little bit better. The Cowboys lost a number of games by less than a touchdown and if they can carry that over into 2016, there is no telling how far the team may go. There are a lot of players that could have been mentioned on this list, but if these players can step their game in 2016, it should improve the overall play of the entire defense. Here are the five players I would like to see step up their game in 2016:

Jaylon Smith: He’s Got The Rush, But No Interceptions?

If you’re like me, one of the first things you did when the Dallas Cowboys drafted Jaylon Smith was drop your jaw. I mean, how could the Cowboys take someone at 34th overall who very likely won’t play a snap this season, and may never take another one again? Once I turned on the tape of him at Notre Dame, that answer became a lot less murky. Ladies and gentlemen, Jaylon Smith is an absolute star at linebacker. Throughout his college career, he has showed instincts, anticipation, patience, toughness, and knowledge.

Five Offensive Players That Need To Step Up In 2016

The 2015 season is over thankfully and we can put the past behind us and turn our focus to what lies ahead in the upcoming season. Year in and year out, organizations around the league have to continuously tinker with the roster in order to hopefully put together the best 53 man squad as possible. Well, I decided to take a look at the roster and share with you five players that I think need to step up their game in 2016 in order to secure a roster spot. Not all of these players are in jeopardy of losing their jobs, but through improved play they should be able to not only make the 53 man roster, but earn more playing time. Devin Street, WR (6’3″, 200) Devin Street will be entering his third season in the NFL, but is already facing an uphill battle to the make the Cowboys roster.

Draft Film Review: Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

For the majority of this Draft Film Review series, I have followed the order which the Cowboys drafted. Meaning, I reviewed the players drafted in the first four rounds before I reviewed those taken in the sixth. In the case of fourth round selection and former Mississippi State Bulldogs Quarterback Dak Prescott, however, I decided to wait until the end. I did this for a few different reasons. First of all, I find him to be possibly the most intriguing of all the Cowboys rookies.

Draft Film Review: Cowboys RB Darius Jackson

The Cowboys running back carousel seemed to finally stop turning when the franchise decided to draft Ohio State stud Ezekiel Elliott with the 4th overall selection of this years draft. Following the addition of Alfred Morris, drafting Zeke added another formidable back to an already crowded position group. Then, in the sixth round, the Cowboys added yet another running back by selecting Eastern Michigan Eagles speedster Darius Jackson. Though the addition of a second running back in one draft class, especially considering the quality of back which was added in the first round, raised some questions and concerns among fans, Jackson could actually have an impact as a Cowboy. Darius Jackson is a zone-blocking type of running back who brings a good mix of power and speed.

Fantasy Football: Is Ezekiel Elliott a First Round Pick?

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft in hopes of recreating their 2014 success. Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, and mainly DeMarco Murray led the Cowboys to a divisional title and a trip to the NFC Divisional playoffs with a … Read more

Win Now V. Rebuilding: The Dallas Cowboys Are Both

“They’re in win now mode.” Who among us has heard that ad nauseam over the course of the last, oh I don’t know, fifty million days? I’ve spent a lot of time digesting this supposed ideology over the last week. I contemplated it to my self and talked about it on various audio platforms: The RJ Ochoa Show, The Footbology Podcast with Marcus Mosher, and my fellow Staff Writer Sean Martin’s school radio show, UFR on WMSC.

What is Dallas’ Biggest Post-Draft Question?

What is the Cowboys’ biggest question mark following the 2016 Draft? Well, what was the biggest question going into the draft? I think most would agree it was “Ezekiel Elliott or Jalen Ramsey” for the fourth-overall pick. We know Dallas went with the running back. Naturally, you wonder what that means for the secondary.

Dallas Cowboys Weighing All Options At Fullback

The age of having a traditional fullback on the roster in the NFL has really started dwindle  over the last several years. So much so that very few teams even have a fullback on their roster. Teams have started using H-backs, tight ends, and even offensive/defensive lineman to come in and make those traditional type fullbacks expendable because they can contribute in more ways for the team. Since taking over the head-coaching responsibilities for the Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett is one of the remaining few that likes to have a traditional fullback on the final 53 man roster. Since 2013, Tyler Clutts has been the Cowboys fullback, but he is currently a free agent and it appears as if the organization is ready to examine all options to replace him.

Ezekiel Elliott Leads Rookie Jersey Sales

Ezekiel Elliott LOVES being a Dallas Cowboy, and Cowboys Nation LOVES to have him here! The fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has had his jersey number for some time now, and as of today has also stepped onto the practice field for the first time! As the excitement builds for his NFL debut, fans have been grabbing Zeke’s #21 jersey at a record pace. In fact, the running back has sold more jerseys than any rookie so far! Behind Elliott in second for jersey sales is Eagles QB Carson Wentz, followed by the Rams #1 overall pick Jared Goff – the QB out of California.
