Entering yesterday, the Dallas Cowboys had officially signed all but one of their 2016 draft selections. By the end of the day, all nine rookies had signed the dotted line to play for the greatest football team in the world, as defensive tackle Maliek Collins signed his rookie deal.
Collins was the Cowboys’ third round pick in the draft, and their last of three picks in the top 100. Unfortunately, like second round pick Jaylon Smith, Collins’ rookie season will be dampened by injury.

Once expected to contribute immediately in the middle of Rod Marinelli’s defensive line as an ideal scheme fit for 2016, the Nebraska product broke his foot (similarly to Dez Bryant in the 2015 opener) early in OTAs. While it is unclear what the Cowboys’ coaching staff plans to do in terms of Collins’ roster spot, we know that this injury will set him back through the vast majority of training camp and the preseason.
As the season goes on, keep an eye on the freshly-signed Collins to eventually piece things together as he gets back to full strength, and hopefully become a solid rotational player at both defensive tackle positions.
