In one of the most surprising moves of their 2017 cut day, the Dallas Cowboys have released quarterback Kellen Moore. Unless someone else is signed, this means Dallas will carry just Dak Prescott and undrafted rookie sensation Cooper Rush on the Week One roster.
The #Cowboys are releasing QB Kellen Moore, sources say. Could be back at some point, though.

As Rapoport proposes here, Moore could be back. Dallas may re-sign him in Week 2 so that his salary is not guaranteed. He also is still practice squad eligible and will likely land there if another team does not sign him.
Many felt that the Cowboys, particularly Scott Linehan, would not part with Moore despite the ascension of Cooper Rush. Even if no longer the primary backup, Kellen still has value as a strong game preparation guy and voice in the QB room. Don’t be surprised if he’s back in a coaching capacity one day.
Finally there’s a god!!! While a bunch of writers on here suggested we keep three qb’s, fans were wondering if yall ben watching the same games we’ve ben watching, this guy doesnt derserve to be in the league, he’s 100% bum, Kyle Boller sorry!! Smart move Stephen and Co, extra spot for Noah Brown or Marquez White or someone meaningful
Your not much of a fan and don’t know a lot about K Moore. The games I watched he looked pretty good especially considering the circumstances until the Rams and Colts games in preseason this year. When K Moore played in Detroit as an example K Moore was C Rush lite. He also looked pretty good in his 2015 season play per S Linehan considering the circumstances. He should be better now so It was disappointing in the Rams and Colts games. He did look good in the Cardinals game to start the preseason. The Rams and Colts games must be what you are t
Dak & Cooper Rush qb rating in preseason were both over 140. Kellen moore 74. Thats whats on the roster if Dak gets injured and your cool with that??? but im the one not the fan. How many seasons do you have to see with cowboys qbs getting injured and we have nobody to steer the ship. Do you feel 100% ok with kellen moore against starters when he struggled against 2’s and 3’s in preseason?? and you call yourself a fan Cmon man
Actually, writers here have said repeatedly the Cowboys will keep him on the 53-man roster, not that they should. In our private conversations (you’re welcome to join us on Discord btw), we are not fans of KelMo. Hopefully, the move today stays final, whether KelMo ends up on the practice squad or another team, but sounds like the coaches are going to carry him at QB3 once Rico Gathers is moved to IR in the next few days (they had to make room because they want Rico back at mid-season, and that IR status requires he be on the 53-man roster within the league’s week 1 time frame). Again, rather see KelMo on the PS and available if needed, but doubt the coaches will give up the experience on the sideline.
Thanks for reading, Travis!

You gave me , and I’m sure, all of the Boise State fans, 4 of the most exciting, football years of our lives! COME BACK KELLEN! WE NEED YOU HERE! Thanks so much Kellen, for all of the exciting games!
Week 2 might be correct – no news today that anyone signed Moore. If still unsigned, I think he will take the practice squad slot. Not sure the Cowboys are planning on offering it however.
What a job by Cooper Rush. Seeing someone come out of nowhere & play his way into the NFL, is the best part of pre-season. Rush has poise, can read defenses (will get harder for regular season), and he is aggressive looking downfield. Can’t believe he fell through the entire draft.
Romo, Russell Wilson, Dak, now maybe Rush – strong arguments for not spending high picks on QB’s, but rather try to find a diamond in the rough. They are out there.
