We already knew that Sean Lee had a monster game last Sunday in New Jersey (that’s right, Giants fans… NEW JERSEY). But after a review of the tape and the final recording of all statistics, his big night will now go down in history.
The coaches credited Lee with 22 total tackles, the most ever in Dallas Cowboys history. He had 17 solo tackles and five assists.
Lee’s performance was just three tackles short of the all-time record. Brian Urlacher, arguably the greatest linebacker to never be involved in a murder plot, had 25 total tackles in 2006.
The 22 tackles for Sean Lee was one more than the previous mark, which was shared by two players. One of them Ring of Honor member Lee Roy Jordan, who set the record in 1971.
The other 21-tackle game was by, guess who… Sean Lee. He tied Jordan’s record in 2013. Now, though, Lee will get to stand alone in Cowboys history.
2016 is Lee’s second season as the “WILL” or weak side linebacker. He made the switch last season to try and help reduce wear and tear. He has now tied and broken the single-game record playing from two different positions, showing what an incredible overall player that he is.
Man is a beast and one of the smartest defensive minds in the game. Hard to imagine what he could have accomplished thru the years if he had a better defensive line in front of him.
