Defensive end, Anthony Spencer, might need micro-fracture surgery on his left knee according to Jerry Jones.
This could mean an end to Spencer’s 2013 season.
“It’s a real setback,” Jones said this morning on his radio show.
Spencer underwent surgery on his knee in late July, and has only practiced a handful of time since. Spencer played in the Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs where the Cowboys were defeated 17-16.
The day following the game Spencer reported soreness but thought his knee was normal after the game. This Sunday soreness prevented him from pre-game warm-ups and ultimately playing in the game against the Rams.
This past offseason the Cowboys freed up $10.63 million in their cap space to franchise Spencer for the second year in a row.
Spencer had a career-high 11 sacks last season which sent him to the Pro Bowl for his first time.
Jones said Spencer is the type of guy you almost have to tie up to keep him from playing.
“He was so diligent in his rehab. The individual that I have the most empathy for is Spencer because of the type of person he is,” said Jones.
