Tony Romo picked up a bad snap off the turf at AT&T Stadium, as Cowboys Nation held their breath. We exhaled in elation as his dart over the middle went into the hands off the ever-reliable Jason Witten – giving the Cowboys a memorable start to the 2015 campaign with a win over the rival Giants.
Now, that moment feels long-gone, and four straight losses have allowed the Giants to regain control of this division. At 4-3, they sit a game ahead of the Redskins and Eagles.
The Redskins earned their third win of the season this week with the largest comeback in franchise history. Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes in the second half to defeat Tampa Bay.
The Eagles stumbled into this spot, with a primetime loss to the still undefeated Panthers. DeMarco Murray went for just 65 yards while Sam Bradford added to his interception total while failing to throw a touchdown.
The Eagles defense was solid once again, picking off Cam Newton three times. However, it was not enough to win on the road.
This leaves the Dallas Cowboys at 2-4 in last place. They return home this Sunday to face the Seahawks, in what is a virtual must-win game. There were plenty of positives from the loss to the Giants, particularly from the offense, that hopefully carry over in this game.
Scott Linehan added some layers of creativity to the playcalling, which made the offense look much sharper being led by Matt Cassel as opposed to Brandon Weeden. A win would set up a pivotal Sunday night game the following week against the Eagles. Philadelphia will be coming off of their bye week.
The Giants and Redskins face tough road games this week, with New York playing at the Superdome against the Saints and the Redskins traveling to Foxborough to face the undefeated Patriots.
