Would You Play Ezekiel Elliott … Where?

The other day I turned on some of Ezekiel Elliott’s college tape just for fun. I was at work thinking about just how talented he was, and got the itch to watch him wreck. Play after play, it’s amazing to me how well he does everything. When he runs, he runs with purpose and direction. He makes guys miss in the open field, can lower his shoulder and bulldoze his way to a first down, or can bounce an outside run to the sideline, gain the edge, and explode down the field.

Dallas Cowboys Need Daryl Johnston Type Fullback

Who is your favorite all-time Dallas Cowboys football player? I know the answers will vary depending on how long you’ve been a Cowboys fan or what decade you may have grown up in, but to me fullback Daryl Johnston is probably my all-time favorite. I was just six years old when the Dallas Cowboys decided to select Daryl Johnston in the 1989 NFL Draft, with their second round selection (39th overall). I was just beginning to get a really good grasp on the game of football and started paying closer attention to what was going on when I was watching the games on TV. I remember distinctively how my attention continued to gravitate towards #48 as the years progressed and the Cowboys began their journey to becoming one of the most dominant organizations during the early 1990s.

Cowboys Sign TE Austin Traylor, Cut Long Snapper

The Cowboys invited several undrafted rookies to their camp last week and have now signed one to the 90-man offseason roster. Tight end Austin Traylor out of Wisconsin will now join Geoff Swaim and Rico Gathers at the bottom of the depth chart. To make room for Traylor, Dallas released long snapper prospect Brandon Hartson. Don’t be surprised if they add another one sometime soon so that L.P.

Dallas Cowboys: A New Role For Geoff Swaim?

Like all the other teams that make up the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys use the off-season to analyze their current players in hopes of putting together the best 53 man roster possible for the upcoming season. It has already been rumored that the Cowboys plan to use a couple of the current players on the roster at a different position in order to find a bigger role for them or determine their fate to make the final cuts. Keith Smith (6’0″, 232) is moving from the defensive side of the ball to offense, and trying to make the conversion from linebacker to fullback. Rod Smith (6’3″, 226) is also being looked at as a fullback after joining the team as a tailback in 2015 after initially being cut by the Seattle Seahawks. Actually, I wrote an article not too long ago on this topic about the Cowboys exploring all options at the fullback position, but I think there might just be another option that I didn’t even consider until now.

Dallas Cowboys Weighing All Options At Fullback

The age of having a traditional fullback on the roster in the NFL has really started dwindle  over the last several years. So much so that very few teams even have a fullback on their roster. Teams have started using H-backs, tight ends, and even offensive/defensive lineman to come in and make those traditional type fullbacks expendable because they can contribute in more ways for the team. Since taking over the head-coaching responsibilities for the Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett is one of the remaining few that likes to have a traditional fullback on the final 53 man roster. Since 2013, Tyler Clutts has been the Cowboys fullback, but he is currently a free agent and it appears as if the organization is ready to examine all options to replace him.

What is Dallas’ Future at Fullback?

Where did fullback rank among your biggest offseason concerns for the Cowboys? I doubt it was anyone’s top five. What about your top ten? Was it somewhere between the sixth cornerback and backup punter? Much forgotten in the modern NFL, the fullback position is one that most fans give … Read more

Moose Season: Daryl Johnston Owns #48

Daryl Johnston contributed to 3 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl victories, helped the fullback position gain respect, and — as his primary responsibility — paved the way for the great Emmitt Smith, for whom Moose blocked all the way to the Hall of Fame.
