How Ezekiel Elliott Improves All Phases Of The Game

As this past week moved along and we inched closer to the start of the NFL Draft, the fight for Ezekiel Elliott seemed like a lost one. All signs seemed to point to Jalen Ramsey, that is, unless the Chargers snatched him first. Instead the Cowboys decided to sort of shock the world with their selection of Elliott at #4 overall with Ramsey still available. It is easy to get excited about the selection of Zeke. Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, and now Zeke Elliott with that incredible Offensive Line in front of them gives this offense a chance to win each and every week.

The Dallas Cowboys Select Ezekiel Elliott at #4

This past Christmas, I wrote about how the Dallas Cowboys can further build around their star-studded offensive line to win games.  Tonight, in an event that many fans refer to as “Football Christmas”, the Cowboys gave us this answer – drafting running back Ezekiel Elliott out of Ohio State University with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Elliott is one of the most dynamic running back prospects we have seen come out of college over the past few seasons, thriving in a zone-running scheme with the Buckeyes. We all know the narrative far too well by now. DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing in 2014 behind this offensive line.

The 2016 NFL draft is two short days away, leaving us with our second to last countdown post here today. It was 1977 the last time the Dallas Cowboys selected with the 2nd overall pick. After selecting Randy White two years prior to this draft in the same spot, the team once again nailed the pick by adding a certain running back out of Pittsburgh. Here is his story. Tony Dorsett Dorsett revolutionized the football program at the University of Pittsburgh during his four years there from 1973-1976.

[VIDEO] Ezekiel Elliott Dominates in Zone Blocking Scheme

The Dallas Cowboys offensive line is very good. Ezekiel Elliott, the highly coveted running back prospect out of Ohio State, is very good. Combine these two things together scientifically, and it doesn’t take a notebook full of equations to figure out that the Cowboys drafting Zeke could lead to a dominant ground game in 2016. In the video above, ESPN’s Sport Science breaks down Elliott in his college zone-blocking scheme by the numbers to show how dominant he was. The amazing metrics only further prove what scouts have been saying about the prospect for a long time now, in that he hits the hole quickly and will always be a threat to take the ball to the end zone.
